Family
not your average homeschool mom.

I am a big fan of starting today.
Me to me: You’re not gonna be any more ready on Jan 1. Right now, I have 30 minutes. And as a mother of 4, that will absolutely do. Today, on a Wednesday, on the 46th week of the year, is when I begin.
I’m late to the party. Blogging died while I was smoking clove cigars and drinking wine in my 20s. Or am I actually early? A pioneer in the next wave of slower consumption perhaps?
My theory is that our brains will be fried and we will be exhausted with AI content on social media.. I give it another year and a half. Then the blog will reign again. Among those of us who crave more humanness, slowness, and deeper connection.
THE WEEKLY EDIT will be my weekly brain dump, if you will. I hope you enjoy.
I learned just a couple of days ago that I will be hosting Thanksgiving. Correction, I volunteered to host Thanksgiving a couple of days ago. My aunt and uncle, who we usually spend Thanksgiving with, are taking a year off, and my cousins are going to the in-law side of the family.
That left my parents and our family without plans, so I volunteered to host (so I can be a control freak about how fancy everything is). I think holidays are meant to be spent extravagantly, and I wanted to put my hosting abilities to the test.
This is the current state of the room where I will be laying a tablescape, lighting 3527 candles, and sitting down to drink a stiff Smokey Harvest Apple Margarita or Vanilla Chai Old Fashioned

We have 15 days to paint, finish the trim around the windows, and lay the flooring. The bare minimum, really, but if we get all of that done, I’ll be more than impressed.
I’m working on my menu, which will absolutely be comprised of mostly Half Baked Harvest because I have a crush on every single one of her recipes, and she always does the most. I’m not here for an “easy meal hack”, I want a boujee, complicated recipe that tops anything anyone else brings to the dinner.
I’ve been slowly getting through The Gilded Age (I’m a slow show watcher, the show is also a little slow, but it’s just my style.) Every time I finish an episode, I feel a tinge of sadness at how casual and informal American culture has become. I don’t wish to live in an age where you need an extra pair of hands from lady’s maid to put on your outfit, but I do wish more people would dress in something other than an old t-shirt and sweats in public. More thoughts on this in the future, I’m sure.
Tonight, we are going on a date night at a cute bar in a mountain town about 30 minutes from us. The kids go to an evening church event once a week, so we are eating some Costco lasagna at home, and then dropping them off for a drink. (We ended up grabbing a burger at Culvers and going to Home Depot to look at paint colors for our sunroom reno!)
Found another Dream Home in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico this week. Any spare time I have, I’m probably looking up real estate in Mexico. Rentals for now, but as soon as we are able, we would love to purchase a home there. This 5 bedroom, 4 bath home is going for $60k pesos/ month which is about $3,333 USD. Which is still way out of our budget, but working on those income streams!!

This popped up in my memories from two years ago today.

These have been making my afternoon pick me ups extra special.
I’ve been so inspired by kitchy maximalist Christmas decor. Ralph Lauren Christmas trend can honestly go to heck lol. I picked up these for my christmas tree.
I’ve been eyeing these curtains for our living room, but frankly, they are out of my budget. I need 4 panels for my living room window. Trying to decide if I buy a more affordable style somewhere else, or if I save up and live with my ghetto blinds for longer. Any advice would be appreciated.
I always enjoy putting the Kacey Musgraves Christmas Show on in the background a couple times during this time of year.
until next week,
besitos, kaylena
