Family
not your average homeschool mom.
taking mary oliver's advice.
I’ve never wanted our reasons for choosing to homeschool to be mostly about what we’re avoiding.
Sure, I could talk for hours about all the things we’ve chosen to leave behind—the noise, the pressure, the pace that never seems to slow down. But they say that what you focus on, expands, and I don’t want to focus on the negative.
At least, not today.
Today, I want to focus on what we’re choosing.
What we get to give our kids, because of this life we’ve chosen.
We get to offer them the gift of:
– a slow, spacious childhood. where boredom is encouraged and imagination has room to breathe.
– an education that bends and curves with their strengths, where they can take the lead.
– the freedom to follow curiosity, to see the world through the lens of wonder and whimsy.
-the flexibility of a family dynamic that allows for exploration and travel.
– a worldview that doesn’t box them in, but invites them to see with empathy and think freely.
– more time together, as a family—learning side by side, growing together.
Today, we mark the new school year not with backpacks and bus stops, but with cheese danish and chocolate croissants from the bakery down the street—candles flickering just because.
Today, we read about a young wizard who lives in a cupboard under the stairs.
Today, we move slowly, eat together, and seek reconciliation when we fall short and need forgiveness.
There’s no worksheet or curriculum that could ever give my children what this homeschool lifestyle offers them.
Today, we begin again—another homeschool year of learning, growing, and becoming… together.
